• A rare antique Longevity, or Turtle Back Dzi bead from DharmaShop founder, Sander Cohen's curated collection of specialty beads.  This specific bead was collected in Kathmandu.
• The bead features stunning agate banding and is full of unique surface detail that reflect its age and authenticity.
• Estimated to be between 600 and 1,000 years old or more.  Hand strung at the DharmaShop on an adjustable sterling silver chain.

Over the last 20 years, DharmaShop founder Sander Cohen has been collecting Dzi beads from both Nepal and Taiwan.  This beautiful Longevity Dzi was part of an antique necklace that featured over a dozen rare and special beads.  Sander has kept this necklace in his personal collection for almost a decade and only recently decided to remove a few of his favorite, high quality antique Dzi to offer to the DharmaShop community.

As you can see, this bead has been chipped at the end.  We absolutely love imagining a piece of this bead being dug out and used in the traditional medicine making process.  This is considered a sign of auspiciousness and truly reflects the rich history and authenticity of the bead.

Dzi beads are believed to bring protection and prosperity to the wearer.  The Longevity Dzi features a dark tortoise shell pattern and is also referred to as a "Turtle Back" Dzi.  This design represents a long and happy life.  It is known to improve health and healing while protecting from sickness and negativity.

Bead measures just under 13mm long and 8mm wide.  Adjustable chain measures approximately 22 inches and can be tightened as desired.
